Success In Small Measures

Did you ever notice the way a baby walks when they are taking their first steps? Some of them don’t even realize what they are doing, and as soon as they notice they’ve walked they fall down.

Then the magic happens.

Internet Marketing Baby StepsThey get back up, shift their weight to one leg to prepare themselves, then concentrate, I mean really concentrate, on taking that next step.

So many people refer to things as baby steps because they are small and insignificant when considered alone, but taken together can add up to walking!

Be BookWise with Bob | Conference Call With Robert Allen

Robert G. Allen has been a mentor of mine for years, and in fact, is a father figure to me.  That’s why I’m so excited that he’s going to be my guest on a conference call tonight for my Credit Millionaires

If you’d like to be on the call, visit Partner With Bob.  On that page you’ll either see instructions to get on the call, or the replay link, depending on whether the call has taken place when you visit.

One of the many lessons that Bob taught me came fairly early in my meetings with him.  He said to a group of 1200 people or so, that one of the best ways to get the attention of your mentor is to find what cause they are passionate about, or project they are working on, and help them reach their goal… without telling them you are doing so.

I’ve applied that lesson numerous times, and I must admit, it works.  Most recently it’s worked to obtain Robert Allen, who doesn’t do many guest conference calls, on a call for our members.

Bookwise wiser than it’s associates?

…maybe some of them…

My Friend Joel Comm recently decided to leave my new favorite company, Bookwise.

Seems like he’s among a few people that recently received a cease and desist order in the mail because they purchased a domain name with Bookwise in it, in violation of the associate agreement that everyone signed when they joined.

Joel posted the reason why he decided to leave in his blog. I replied, and it’s in his approval queue… but in the event he decides not to approve my comments, or to edit them, I decided to post my response here. I think it’s a good lesson in intellectual property rights issues.

Hi Joel,

First of all I’d like to start off by saying you’re right. To ask you to switch to a domain without their trademark in it is probably shortsighted.

I’ve always wanted to meet Hugh Hefner.

Ok, first I gotta say that a friend of mine, who is known as the “Rich Jerk” in his online persona, is brilliant. He’s having an event, of all places, at the playboy mansion.

Now, sexist sales letter aside(the sales pages actually begins with “If my wife knew I was mailing for this, she’d KILL me…), it’s a frickin’ great idea, and I’ll be there.

No, it’s not for the women, although I’m hoping to have a good chat with them.. butPlayboy Mansion because I’ve been a fan of Hugh Hefner and the Playboy Empire for years. I actually read Playboy. I played the “Playboy Mansion” xbox game for endless hours. I’ve seen every episode of The Girls Next Door.

And as a real estate investor, you gotta admire a guy like Hugh. He’s the reason I’ve moved mountains to be there. I don’t know if he’ll be at the party, but if there’s even a slight chance, I’m there. It’s a chance of a lifetime.

Once again, I’ve found inspiration while surfing the internet. I’ll skip the commentary and just share it with you.

It Couldn’t Be Done

by Edgar Guest (1881-1959)

Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it”;
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it.
